Shelly Harper
Director, North East Exercise Solutions,
Accredited Exercise Physiologist,
Pilates Practitioner.
An accredited Exercise Physiologist since 1998 and Pilates practitioner since 2002, Shelly is passionate about empowering people to feel inspired and be proactive about their health through movement and exercise.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Exercise Science from Wollongong University, Shelly became the Director of the Illawarra’s leading Pilates and Exercise Physiology Clinic, Wollongong Pilates Studio for over 10 years before making a tree change to King Valley in North East Victoria. With her extensive experience in exercise science, she has developed one of the first exercise physiology services in the Wangaratta and Benalla regions. She is now continuing her journey of empowerment and proactive health approaches with North East Exercise Solutions.
Over the years she has had the good fortune to work with many terrific people with varying needs. Her clients have helped her to learn much as she has helped them. Having experience in the disability field, hospitality and customer service, Shelly understands how to communicate with all types of people and anticipate their needs. Bringing these life experiences into her service, you are guaranteed to feel welcome and supported.
She also loves gardening and spends her spare time growing crops and making preserves.
“My burning passion to help others started in high school. I can remember travelling miles just to help my grandmother with her chores every weekend. I would carry a huge bag of laundry up the road to the train station, catch the train and then walk from the train station to her house. I think about that now and I am amazed at the commitment and effort I made. At the time I didn’t think about that, I just felt the need to help my Nan. To this day helping others gives me a sense of purpose and satisfaction, a legacy of character and faith.”
Chris Grattidge
Allied Health Assistant
Chris is a qualified Allied Health Assistant and Shelly’s partner of over 22 years. He has a wide range of skills from the practical – being a fitter by trade and all round handyman, to the personal – having over 10 years experience working in the disability sector running day activity programs for adults and children.
Chris’s role at North East Exercise Solutions is a supportive role helping the Exercise Physiologists with group exercise sessions, all aspects of studio administration, cleaning and studio maintenance. He is Shelly’s right hand man!
Chris has worked as a Physiotherapy assistant at Coledale Hospital near Wollongong, running exercise groups and providing personal rehabilitation services. His other hospital-based work included wardsman and security where his role of helping patients, their families and collaboration with health professionals heightened his communication and people skills.
In his spare time, Chris owns and operates King Valley Winery Tours and finds the best part of this work is meeting the lovely people who book his services for a day out in the King Valley or surrounds.
Chris is an avid gardener and proud of his veggie patch which once produced a tomato that weighed in at 1.52Kg! The surplus bounty is often shared with clients in the studio, expanding our services to include food sharing.
